Remote together in a more than human world.

In the framework of the Walking Encounters in Catalonia two duos of artists participated with remote audio walks, in the wake of the pandemic. The audio walk In between distance brought together two artists from Greece and Canada, the other audio walk , created by a duo of walkers in Alberta – Canada, connected walkers around the world walking among trees.

The latter audio work Being with trees by Annie Martin and Sandra Cowan, colleagues at the University of Lethbridge in Canada, is a guided interaction with trees while walking among them. During this contemplative walk, you are invited to be aware of all of our senses, and experience different aspects of our interrelationship with trees.

The other sound walk “In between distance” is a sound piece created by online communication between two artists in remote part of the world; in Canada and in Greece. The audio walk refers to a synchronised, non and post synchronised meditative walking, between the northern and the southern hemisphere. Having shared this unique experience allows to deeply feel that there is no distance and no time of any kind.

Sophie Cabot lives in Canada and Vicky Vergou lives in Greece and the UK. They are both women, artists, thinkers, walkers having both a deep interest in the intelligence of nature. They met online during COVID at an art-ecology conference. This unexpected encounter had led them to a strong connection.

Annie Martin and Sandra Cowan, from Alberta, Canada, have collaborated on recent projects based on their shared interests in sound walks, contemplative practice, walking as art practice, and connection with place. Being with Trees grew out of these collaborations and our mutual respect and love for the natural and vegetal worlds.

The four artists are now gathered in this walk · listen · café for a round table conversation and discussion with the audience about (remote) relationships and creative collaborations via sound walking in an (almost) post pandemic world.

Both works are accessible via the links above and can be listened to while walking before you join us in the walk · listen · café.

From here to there seeking out lost paths with Jack Cornish

2024-05-07 18:00

Hundreds of thousands of miles of paths reach into, and connect, communities across England and Wales, however, there are several thousand that have been lost or barricaded over the years. Walking artists and activist, Jack Cornish has dedicated the last five years of his life to walking these forgotten routes.
