How many pairs of shoes?

4 Jun, 2023

Traditionally June starts with Go Barefoot Day, an annual celebration in which people are encouraged to kick off their footwear, let their feet breathe, and take the time to walk in bare feet as much as possible.
It has more to it than kicking off your shoes or putting your feet in direct contact with the Earth. The idea was created by a charity organization called Soles4Souls in the wake of the tsunami disaster that occurred in 2004, and that led to a lot of people plunged into poverty. The real purpose of Go Barefoot Day is to encourage people to donate shoes, both new and used.
We may take shoes for granted. An average woman in the UK owns 34 pairs of shoes, an American woman 27 pairs, the average man in the UK owns 14 pairs, an American man 12 pairs. You might be surprised to know that shoes are one of the hardest things to get in poorer countries. People in these countries can make their own clothes. A durable pair of shoes, however, is much more difficult to make. This is one of many reasons that millions of children in poverty-stricken countries go without.
However, at the same time, there is something appealing about walking bare feet. .
There are actually quite a few excellent health and wellbeing benefits to doing this.
Nothing can compensate for the feeling one gets over strolling on the ground or grass barefoot. So rebel against your shoes in June and go barefoot. Be it wherever you are; just put off the shoes and go sockless, celebrating the Summer ahead.
