We’ll start on the top of Dover’s Hill then walk and draw our way into the landscape, following a series of prompts. Dover’s Hill is near to the Cotswolds town of Chipping Campden and has great views of the Vale of Evesham and beyond.
Taking an experimental approach to drawing, we’ll follow a series of exercises and respond to serendipitous encounters along the way. We’ll pause as we walk to zoom out to the view and into the details.
Moving at a relaxed pace in a friendly atmosphere, we’ll take a creative approach to finding inspiration in our surroundings and looking at what is around us with a fresh eye. This workshop is suitable for all levels, ages 18+, from beginners looking for some starting points on ways to combine walking and drawing, to those more experienced and looking for fresh inspiration.
This event is led by artist and tutor, Ruth Broadbent and is linked to Between the Lines exhibition at The House of Smalls, where Ruth is exhibiting thirty-nine of her drawings from A Line Across England, cycling a line of ancient tracks across England, from Norfolk to Weymouth.
This walk.draw is inspired by Ruth’s walks from the gallery to explore the local area, from the start of the Cotswold Way in Chipping Campden that links the exhibition to the panoramic view from the top of Dover’s Hill. There are lots of resonances with the tracks of A Line across England and the making of this work, so it feels apt to organise a walk.draw event at the top of the hill.
The House of Smalls is in Chipping Campden in the heart of the Cotswolds (Gloucestershire, UK) and, as part of this event, you’re warmly invited to pop into the gallery after the event to see the exhibition and meet Amy Oliver, who runs the gallery and curated this exhibition.
