The idea for the artwork came to my mind when I enterd the courtyard of the special primary school and I saw a painted red line on the ground.
In the process I find that it has been designed to be a kind of “direction guide” for children with disabilities. The execution seemed easy: The teacher gives the order to walk (on this line) with the ultimate goal of perceiving the sense of balance, the beginning, the course and the end of a journey.
Can you walk?
Inspired by Prespes, the tri-national, the border, we define a line. The distinction of the horizon, between earth and sky, which is difficult to see in the urban environment, was the reason to put this project in this place.
Walkers are invited to cross a red line designed in the natural space, each in his own way: One by one, many together, forward and backward, in side steps or with only one foot. The whole project is based on the process of delimited walking. We invite everyone to walk and observe, to listen, to think about how everyone walks and why.
The process will be videotaped.
The final project, which is none other than the videotaped material, is urged to be uploaded on a specific social media platform, accompanied by the hashtag #walk_the_line.
It is suggested to repeat the process, in any way everyone can and wants, in different places and environments.
We draw our own red line in our personal environment and we walk it.
A simple, universal process that suggests subtly, objectively and allegorically, the completely personal “line”, since the way of performing the simple gait reveals a -surprisingly- wide possibility of individual variations.
