Walking in Mouraria (Lisbon) by playing a board game

OLYMPUS DIGITAL CAMERA

In this workshop, we will experiment with a virtual walk along streets and alleys, stairs, squares, gardens, and historical buildings in Mouraria’s neighbourhood (Lisbon). Walking, we will get to know residents and community networks, witness gentrification processes and city tourism, and explore services, commerce, multicultural exchanges and social gatherings. The board game O Jogo do Bairro (2019) is a cartographic instrument that the researcher conceived and implemented for an artistic community laboratory titled “Mouraria’s Legacies” (2017) with senior residents with mobility restrictions. With this game, they could travel through their daily spaces and share experiences and memories about their neighbourhood in Lisbon. Website /Online Material: http://somaticlandscape.com/

conspectus

A place to gaze. Conspectuses are viewpoints where the terrain opens itself naturally to the viewer, where the eye can thread in and out of the circle of hills, and names suggest a narrative sequence offering the possibility of beginning to know where you are. Traditional conspectus include suidhe (Gaelic, seat), used to view hunting.
